  1. I have a list of every locality in England. Tens of thousands of them. They are without a doubt the most wonderful thing on my Google Drive.

Sometimes I wonder whether I am in love with Anglish things because I’m descended from those people, or because they are intrinsically wonderful.

  2. Maybe the kind of thing you want to share with the neural-network researcher who made all this stuff?

  3. Sure that's not Thornham Magna?

    1. Oops! Typo. I wrote this entry sitting in a hotel lounge late in the evening drinking beer and looking at old road maps.

    2. Not to fret. Sounds like the best possible use of one's time, given some of the hotel lounge's I've seen.

  4. I knew about Chapel St Leonards but...California? Now that's just crazy!

  5. ... What's funny about Chapel St-Leonards or North Cove? The other names are ... peculiar... but those two seem normal to me. ... I don't get it.

  6. My american wife always loved Assington ( a little village between colchester and sudbury) and she still laughs about the road sign ( painted on the road in big White letters so you knew which lane to be in) outside my old flat to fingeringhoe which read f'inghoe. asmall village in essex.
